Walk with Chop 2023

April 2023 @ Gippsland, Victoria

Raised - $26,338

Riley (Choppy) Pearce courageously battled with mental health illness for some time. Choppy’s determination and courage throughout his battle and his lived experience of this illness, allowed him to help and assist others in their own battle with mental health.
Choppy was a vivid mental health campaigner and the legacy he has left behind was evident when many family, friends, and members of the wider community came together to farewell Choppy, and share their stories, after he tragically took his own life in January 2021. The devastating effect of Choppy’s death was felt across the whole community, and it was at this horrific time that we all came to know just how many people Choppy supported through their dark times, as many came forward about their own struggles with mental illness.

Boomerang Loop AU

October 2022 @ Australia Wide

Raised - $54,222

Taking on the challenge of a lifetime is more than just a physical triumph. Cycling 50 days, back-to-back, averaging a huge 285km per day to accomplish the goal of cycling around Australia is going to take everything, and that is both physically AND mentally. Ben and Jay both originated in the UK, but have found themselves on the Australian shores for the past 6 years. Having both played competitive rugby growing up and continuing that enjoyment for exercise throughout their adulthood, which has seen both participate in bodybuilding, powerlifting, weightlifting and many more activities.

January 2020 saw the outlook of the world become incredibly insular. Covid was setting in, travel was becoming more and more difficult, and the impending ‘lockdown’ looked inevitable. It was in this environment that Boomerang loop au was born. Both Ben and Jay have found inspiration from people performing incredible feats. Whether that’s

climbing 14 mountain peaks in 7 months or Cycling the pan American highway in under 100 days. It was this inspiration that made them look to the biggest possible challenge that they could do within the foreseeable restrictions. This was cycling, 14,251km around Australia. It was known at the inception that doing this challenge would be difficult from a physical point of view, however it became very clear from the onset of the training that this was far more of a mental challenge than physical. With Jay having struggled with his own personal mental health and Ben having witnessed the impact of mental health difficulties, the connection to how this challenge could positively impact mental health well-being was obvious. With this in mind, Boomerangloop made contact with Mindfull Aus to dedicate any of the challenges donations to the incredible work that Mindfull Aus do.

‘People go about their day to day struggling with their own personal mental health battles. What we are doing is nothing in comparison to what they will be going through.’ This is lap of Australia is going to test the boys like nothing else. It will test their physical capabilities and their mental resilience.

Clubs for a Cause

2022 @ Perth to Sydney, AUS

Raised - $54,372

I’m Troy Jones, I transform the bodies and minds of young people every day through mindset coaching and fitness. For the past 18 months I have embarked on a journey that often requires me to run 60kms in a day in 30 Degree heat.

Why would someone do this? Well, I went through undiagnosed depression for years that I masked with severe drug use. Every week I would have crippling thoughts that I escaped through using party drugs only making the cycle more and more severe as time went on. I saw myself and the people around me going further into debt, ruining relationships and into darkness. It got deeper to the point where I got myself into a lot of trouble and was arrested. This was my darkest point and I finally woke up to the fact it was all coming from mental health issues I hadn’t worked on and partying. From this wake up, I stopped partying all together, studied to be a personal trainer and my life was changed.

I started to push myself physically and mentally in my sessions and as I did, I found myself starting to deal with the demons inside, I started to open up, I started to learn more about mental health and best part of all I started to speak to others like my clients who needed someone to talk to.

Since then I've worked with over 100 young adults who have suffered with some form of anxiety or mental illness, helping them set goals, feel achievement and have the same release I do through fitness. So, that’s my 'why' for running, now why so much? Well I plan to run from Perth to Sydney, straight across Australia to raise massive awareness for mental health. I’m going to do this by running 60kms a day for 67 days straight and starting a Forest Gump effect where each town I pass through, people run along with me and further spread awareness.

I want this to be an inspiration for people all around Australia to show them that I’ve been to the darkest places, as bad as it can get and get through it to run across Australia.

Crossing for a Cause

September 2022 @ Sunshine Coast, QLD

We're walking with mates for mental health awareness

Clubs for a Cause 2022 is a charity walk undertaken by community Clubs and their suppliers. The event is a collaborative project organised by volunteers from venues and industry suppliers alike to raise money for Mindfull Aus. On Saturday, 22nd of October the Club industry will be doing a 10km walk to raise funds and put a spotlight on mental health.

NSW has joined QLD and we'll be walking from Coolangatta Surf Club, finishing with a function at Club Tweed.

Dusting off the sneakers and taking it to the streets in the name of Mental Health Awareness! The weather wasn’t looking like it would be in our favour but just like in mental health we can’t have blue skies every day, sometimes we must push through the storm.

Fortunately, we managed to stay mostly dry and the 10km walk was spent chatting, laughing and sharing stories. It reminded us that it is important to reach out to those around you, check in on them and offer help or support if needed.

The work that Steve Edgar and Maddy Ellis have done is beyond brilliant, and the initiative to get mental health help packs into clubs is going to help a lot of people. So far, Clubs for a Cause have raised over $47,000 from this event. We heard a very moving and personal story from Matt Runnalls of Mindfull Aus after the walk and knowing that this money raised is going to save lives has filled us with so much hope.
